Set against the backdrop of a colonial-era diamond mine in Africa, the "Blood Diamond" slot game is an immersive and intense experience that combines stunning graphics with engaging gameplay. Developed by Microgaming, one of the most renowned online casino software providers, this 5-reel slot machine has captivated players worldwide with its unique theme and exciting features.
Theme and Design
The Blood Diamond slot transports players to a demo Blood Diamond dark and mysterious world where greed, exploitation, and bloodshed are all too real. The game’s setting is inspired by the infamous diamond mines of Africa during the colonial era, a period marked by extreme violence and human rights abuses. The reels are set against a backdrop of twisted mine shafts, rusty machinery, and debris-strewn tunnels, creating an eerie atmosphere that immerses players in the world of exploitation.
The game’s design is characterized by stark contrasts: dimly lit mines, worn-out tools, and old equipment coexist with modern-day machinery and contraband. The Blood Diamond logo takes center stage on the reels, while diamond-encrusted portraits and gemstones adorn the borders, adding a touch of opulence to an otherwise grim setting.
Symbols
The game’s symbols are meticulously designed to reflect the theme, from the obvious – diamonds, ruby rings, and golden nuggets – to more subtle allusions: old cannons, machine guns, and mines themselves. The regular playing card suits (J-Q-K-A) complete the set of 15 unique icons.
Each symbol has its own story to tell:
- Diamonds serve as both low-paying symbols and high-paying wilds.
- Ruby rings hold a special place in the game’s hierarchy: they trigger one of two bonus features, depending on their number.
- Golden nuggets offer additional rewards for collecting three or more.
- Old cannons fire up the free spins feature when three or more appear anywhere on the reels.
Payouts
Blood Diamond is a medium-to-high volatility slot with payouts that range from 1x to 1000x the bet. Players can win significant prizes, especially if they manage to collect a combination of ruby rings and diamonds:
- Ruby ring combinations offer:
- Three rubies: 10x the total bet.
- Four rubies: 20x the total bet.
- Five rubies: 50x the total bet.
- Diamond combinations reward players with payouts ranging from 1x to 1000x, depending on their position and number.
Wilds
Diamonds act as both wild symbols and expanding wilds. They can substitute for any symbol except ruby rings in winning combinations. When diamonds appear on reels 2-4 (middle rows), they expand horizontally or vertically to cover entire reels, guaranteeing a win of at least 5x the total bet.
Scatters
Ruby ring scatter icons pay out regardless of their position and trigger one of two bonus features when three or more land anywhere on the reels. The number of ruby rings determines which feature is awarded:
- Free Spins Feature : 3-6 rubies award a random number of free spins with enhanced payouts (5x to 20x).
- Bonus Buy Feature : 7+ rubies unlock access to an instant cash prize, ranging from €10 to €100.
Bonus Features
Blood Diamond boasts two bonus features:
- Free Spins Feature : The game awards between five and ten free spins with increased payouts (5x to 20x), depending on the number of triggering ruby rings.
- Bonus Buy Feature : This instant cash prize feature is only accessible when seven or more rubies appear anywhere on the reels, rewarding players with a fixed sum ranging from €10 to €100.
Free Spins
As mentioned earlier, free spins are awarded by collecting three to six ruby ring scatters in any position. The number of triggering symbols determines both the number and payout value of the subsequent free spin session:
- 3 rubies: 5-10 free spins with 5x payouts.
- 4 rubies: 5-15 free spins with 8x payouts.
- 5 rubies: 5-20 free spins with 12x payouts.
Return to Player (RTP)
Microgaming’s "Blood Diamond" slot has a reported RTP of 96.06%, which is above the industry average for medium-to-high volatility slots.
Volatility
The game falls into the category of medium-to-high volatility, offering significant rewards and some large wins but with relatively low frequency due to the higher stakes involved in each round.
Betting Range
Players can place wagers ranging from €0.10 per spin up to a maximum of €20, making it accessible for beginners while still accommodating more experienced players.
Max Win
The game’s max win is capped at 1000x the total bet, with the top payout being achievable in combination with three or four diamonds and six ruby rings.
Gameplay Experience
Blood Diamond is designed to immerse players in its dark world of diamond exploitation. The game runs smoothly on PC/Mac browsers and mobile devices alike (iOS/Android) but requires Adobe Flash support for older devices due to the absence of HTML5 compatibility.
